Dye-Sublimation Printers: Key Image Settings and Requirements

As one of the leading digital printing devices in the large-format photo output field, dye-sublimation printers often encounter compatibility issues when printing CAD files. However, Montai printing software does not support direct import of CAD DWG files for printing. So, how can you output CAD drawings using a Fedar dye-sublimation printer through image editing software?


Direct Printing via Dye-Sublimation Printer

 

If the image editing software supports direct output to digital printing devices, there is no need to convert the CAD file format. For example, some professional image printing systems are compatible with CAD files and can directly output them to dye-sublimation printers for heat transfer printing. However, many home imaging devices use the Montai cutting system, a common method in the heat transfer printing process. Montai software usually supports image formats such as JPG and TIF, meaning CAD files must be converted to these formats for successful output.


Converting CAD Files to Image Format

Here’s the standard conversion process:

  1. Using AutoCAD’s Built-in PDF Printer
    AutoCAD includes a built-in PDF printer that supports outputting DWG files to PDF format. Users can use the built-in PDF printer or third-party tools like pdfFactory.

  2. Saving the PDF File to a Specified Location
    After selecting the output range in the print settings, click "OK" and save the PDF file to the target folder.

  3. Converting the PDF File in Photoshop
    Open the saved PDF file in Photoshop. Adjust the resolution according to the dye-sublimation printing process requirements (usually 300 DPI for high-quality output). After adjustments, save the file as a JPG format, which can then be imported into the Fedar dye-sublimation printer for printing.

By following these steps, CAD drawings can be converted to JPG or TIF files and successfully imported into the Fedar dye-sublimation printer, achieving precise heat transfer image output.


Image Requirements for Dye-Sublimation Printing Equipment

 

Dye-sublimation printers, also known as large-format heat transfer printing devices, are highly regarded in the advertising printing and digital printing industries for their excellent color reproduction and high-precision output. With the rapid development of the domestic marketing industry, the demand for large-format dye-sublimation printers has surged. Printing costs are often calculated per square meter, so it’s advisable to confirm the specific requirements with the output service provider in advance.

2. Image Resolution

For large-format dye-sublimation printing, a resolution of 72 DPI is usually sufficient. However, for high-resolution output (e.g., files larger than 400MB), the resolution may need to be adjusted to balance image quality and file size. It is recommended to optimize the settings based on the performance of your Fedar dye-sublimation printer and ensure compliance with the color management standards for thermal transfer printing.

3. Image Color Mode

The CMYK color mode is recommended for dye-sublimation printing.
